This product is a dried and mature seed of the leguminous plant Cassia obtusifolia L. or Cassia tora L. Harvest mature fruits in autumn, sun dry them, plant seeds, and remove impurities.

Traits:

Decision: Slightly rhombic or short cylindrical in shape, with both ends parallel and inclined, 3-7mm long and 2-4mm wide. The surface is green brown or dark brown, smooth and glossy. One end is relatively flat, the other end is slanted and pointed, with one raised edge on each side of the back and abdomen. There is one slanted symmetrical and lighter colored linear concave line on each side of the edge. Hard in texture and not easily broken. The seed coat is thin, with 2 yellow cotyledons that are folded and overlapping in an "S" shape. Mild qi, slightly bitter taste.
Xiaoxiaming: It is a short cylindrical shape, smaller, 3-5mm long, and 2-3mm wide. There are one broad light yellow brown band on each side of the surface edge.
Sexual Taste and Meridian tropism
Sweet, bitter, salty, slightly cold. Guigan and Large Intestine Meridian

Function and Indications:

Clear heat and brighten the eyes, moisten the intestines and relieve constipation. Used for redness and pain, shyness and excessive tears, headache and dizziness, unclear vision, and constipation.

Modern pharmacological effects

1. Hypolipidemic effect

The effective part of Cassia seed for lowering blood lipids is the n-butanol part. Compared with the high-fat blood rat model group, the total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels in the serum of the Cassia seed dose group were significantly increased.
The levels of TC and TG in the liver were significantly reduced, and the total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD) was significantly increased, indicating that Cassia seed has a certain lipid-lowering function.

2. Hypotensive effect

Research has shown that the anthraquinone glycoside of Cassia seed can significantly reduce the systolic blood pressure of the tail artery in hypertensive rats with two kidneys and one clip, and has a protective effect on the kidneys of hypertensive rats. Cassia seed protein, oligosaccharides, and anthraquinone glycosides can significantly reduce blood pressure in experimental hypertensive rats.

3. Diarrhea effect

Traditional applications have shown that Cassia seed has a laxative and intestinal moisturizing effect, and the active ingredient may be the anthraquinone substances it contains.
Anthraquinone substances have the effect of promoting intestinal peristalsis, reducing the absorption of sterols, and enhancing intestinal excretion. Moreover, the abundant polysaccharides and cellulose in Cassia seed have a significant synergistic effect with anthraquinone substances.

4.Mingmu effect

Cassia seed is named after its outstanding visual function. The n-hexane part of Cassia seed has a significant anti photooxidation effect, which can inhibit the deposition of a pyridine retinol (A2E) induced by light in retinal pigment epithelial cells, and is expected to improve macular degeneration in the eyes of the elderly.

The ethanol extract of Cassia seed has antioxidant effects, which can inhibit the CCl4 induced decrease in cytochrome P4502E1 activity, lower liver and mitochondrial malondialdehyde levels, increase liver and mitochondrial glutathione levels, restore the activity of superoxide dismutase, glutathione reductase, and glutathione S-transferase, and have liver protective effects.
